The Royal City Ukulele Ensemble (RCUE) uses funds collected from our community performances (fees/stipends/honorariums) and individual contributions to support gifting instruments and resources to Guelph-area elementary schools. We have now been able to provide full class sets of 30 quality Ohana ‘ukuleles plus teaching resources, including digital Ukulele in the Classroom method books and a year-long subscription to Ukulele in the Classroom Teacher Toolkit, to five schools in our district. Each individual school donation is valued at nearly $4000. The ensemble additionally provides a short performance for the recipient schools and a teacher workshop to help support schools in getting ‘ukulele programs, curriculum integrations, or clubs off the ground.
